Help the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis (SABA) raise $1 million by December 31, 2016. For more than 30 years the SABA has been promoting the field of behavior analysis by supporting talented students, encouraging global dissemination of the science, and recognizing our most inspiring leaders and giving them a platform to reach an even bigger audience.
Your donations have helped make this happen. SABA depends on private financial gifts to do its important work.
SABA’s capital campaign will solidify our ability to fulfill three major goals:
Strengthening Student Support. Since 1998, SABA has supported the work of emerging applied and basic researchers of exceptional promise at both the master’s and the doctoral level. Students are truly the future of behavior analysis, and an investment in our fields best and brightest is an investment in its continuing growth and vitality. Student grants have supported projects across the full range of behavior analysis inquiry. However, the demand for research support has far exceeded our resources. In the last 17 years, we had to decline over 500 excellent proposals from deserving students because of a lack of funds.
Expanding Global Outreach. Since 1999 SABA has funded ventures around the world that promote behavior analysis education, research, practice, publications, and networking in regions and organizations that need development and have personnel with the vision to define and pursue achievable projects. The reach of SABA’s International Development Grant truly has been global, and have supported projects in Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Colombia, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Guyana, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Tanzania, the UK, and Zimbabwe. But our resources have been spread thin. Our grants have been small, just a thousand dollars per project. Each year the SABA Board has the heartbreaking job of turning down many wonderful initiatives simply for lack of funding.
Increasing Public Awareness. Few in our field would deny that behavior analysis needs to improve its public profile. SABA makes a regular award for Effective Presentation of Behavior Analysis in the Mass Media and has planned other activities and partnerships with expert communicators and science advocates to promote our work and worldview. SABA will allocate a portion of its proceeds from the capital campaign to create a fund in support of the most creative dissemination efforts. We know what behavior analysis can do; now we need to educate the general public. We want communities all over the world to be aware of the contributions our field can make to education, health, prevention, organizations, and many other areas. Never before have we had funds earmarked for this effort, and the capital campaign will help us disseminate the work of those doing, teaching, and studying behavior analysis.
To achieve our financial objectives, we encourage you to lend a hand, by making a gift in the form of a single contribution, a pledge to contribute a sum of money over the next few years, or a bequest in your will.
