2015: Susan M. Schneider

In Dr. Schneider’s book for the general public, The Science of Consequences: How They Affect Genes, Change the Brain, and Impact Our World, she explains the effect that learning from consequences has on the neural configuration of the brain and how consequences are a key part of the nature-and-nurture system. In an engaging manner, Dr. Schneider shows how consequences have been used to reduce prejudice and eliminate destructive habits and why an understanding of consequences can improve personal relationships and society as a whole. Through interviews on affiliate stations of National Public Radio, on satellite radio’s “Doctor Radio” program, and in Scientist magazine, and through reviews of her book in influential publications such as Nature, Publishers Weekly, and National Science Teachers Association Recommends, Dr. Schneider has brought the principles and applications of behavior analysis to a broad general audience.
