Project Title: Safe Roads, Smart Behaviors: A Behavioral Campaign to Reduce Traffic Violations

 

Dr. T. Ruba , is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Sethu Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu, India. She earned her Ph.D. from Anna University with a research focus on biomedical image processing and deep learning, completing a thesis titled “Accurate Brain Tumor Segmentation and Classification from MRI Images Using Novel Deep Learning Methods.” Her research interests span biomedical image and signal processing, artificial intelligence, healthcare technologies, IoT-enabled smart systems, and automation for agriculture and industry.

 

Over the course of her academic career, Dr. T.Ruba has actively pursued interdisciplinary research that combines engineering innovation with solutions to real-world societal challenges. She has successfully secured and managed multiple externally funded research and innovation projects supported by organizations including MSME, EDII, AICTE, IE(I), and the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell. Collectively, these projects have attracted funding exceeding ₹31 lakh and have focused on areas such as smart healthcare devices, women’s safety technologies, intelligent agricultural systems, waste management, aquaculture monitoring, and sustainable farming solutions.

 

Dr.T.Ruba has received several recognitions for her contributions to research and innovation, including the EDII Innovator Award and recognition as a Top Performing NPTEL Mentor. She also serves as a reviewer for international journals in biomedical engineering, medical imaging, and applied research, contributing to the advancement of scientific scholarship and innovation.

 

The Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis (SABA) Public Awareness Grant will support Dr.T.Ruba’s project, “Safe Roads, Smart Behaviors: A Behavioral Campaign to Reduce Traffic Violations.” The project aims to address unsafe road-user behaviors through evidence-based behavioral interventions, including visual prompts, behavioral cues, positive reinforcement messaging, and community engagement activities. Targeting young drivers and students, the initiative seeks to improve compliance with road safety practices such as helmet use, reduced mobile phone usage while driving, and adherence to traffic regulations.

 

By integrating behavioral science with engineering-driven public awareness strategies, Dr. Ruba’s project demonstrates how interdisciplinary approaches can address pressing community challenges. The initiative is expected to serve as a scalable and replicable model for promoting safer road behaviors while increasing public awareness of the practical applications of behavior analysis in everyday life.
