2012: Pooja Panesar

Kaizora Consultants

Founded in 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya, by Pooja Panesar, Kaizora Consultants is the only center in East Africa offering supervised applied behavior analysis services for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Kaizora Consultants receives supervision by BCBAs through the Global Autism Project. There are very, very few BCBAs living and working in Africa, and through ongoing collaborations between local universities and the University of Massachusetts, Boston, Kaizora Consultants hopes to spark interest and encourage future BCBAs in Africa. The project aimed to create awareness of ABA principles, benefits, and applications. The grant helped build a collection of 65 books on various behavioral topics and make them available to the community. Currently, the books are also used for community workshops and have become an invaluable resource not otherwise available in Kenya’s local or private libraries. Additionally, since Kaizora Consultants houses the books, community members are able to ask questions of staff while using them. Through this project, Kenya has the potential to become a significant contributor to the field of ABA.
