2009: Smita Awasthi

Association for Behavior Analysis of India

Under the aegis of ABA India, Dr. Smita Awasthi and Dr. Maurice Feldman initiated a collaboration between Brock University and Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai to begin the first university-based ABA course in India. This was followed by a series of faculty trainings at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, then a university program in ABA training to prepare students for BCBA examination. This project has begun to generate a resource pool of behavior analysts can serve as mentors in India. The 2-year program is the first course in India thoroughly dedicated to the science of behavior analysis. The hope is that the course will eventually cause a domino effect, making cost effective ABA courses available to meet India’s immense need for behavioral and therapies. The grant funded support faculty training through distance contact, meetings, and by providing mentoring services.
