2012: Julie Ackerlund Brandt

University of Kansas

In 2009, Julie began her doctoral training at the University of Kansas. Under the supervision of Dr. Claudia Dozier, she conducted research on the assessment and treatment of problem behavior as well as procedures for skill acquisition with preschool children. In addition, Julie has worked as a teaching assistant in a practicum course training undergraduate students in behavior analysis and early intervention in an inclusive classroom environment. Julie's research has focused on development of both typically developing children and children with developmental disabilities. Specifically, Julie's research studies have included a comparison of antecedent and consequent interventions on the acquisition of sight-word reading, a determination of the mechanisms responsible for the effectiveness of interventions for skill acquisition, evaluations of variables affecting reinforcer efficacy (e.g., response effort), and the reinforcing effects of choice opportunities with typically developing preschool children.
